Year 9 Rounding Worksheets | Printable PDFs
Year 9 Rounding worksheets for Year 9 Maths (Key Stage 3). Students aged 13–14 develop their understanding of approximation and the accuracy of calculations. Year 9 students may need to re-cap how to round to the nearest decimal place as well as to the nearest significant figure. For that see Year 8 Rounding Worksheets.
Students practise working with upper and lower bounds and solving problems involving rounding and estimation. Upper and lower bounds are the largest and smallest values a rounded number could be. For example, if a length is 7 cm correct to the nearest centimetre, the Lower bound = 6.5 cm, and the Upper bound = 7.5 cm.

Common Questions about Year 9 Rounding
What is an upper bound?
An upper bound is the largest value that a rounded measurement could have before it would round to a different value. How can upper and lower bounds be used in calculations?
They can be used to find the greatest and least possible values of a calculation involving rounded measurements. Why is it important to know the degree of accuracy of a value?
The degree of accuracy determines the interval in which the true value lies and allows accurate error bounds to be calculated.
Year 9 Rounding Common Mistakes
Common Mistake 1
Using the rounded value itself as the upper or lower bound instead of calculating the interval.Common Mistake 2
Forgetting that upper bounds are not included in the interval.Common Mistake 3
Using the wrong degree of accuracy when finding the bounds of a measurement.
