Standard form is a way of writing very large or very small numbers as a number between 1 and 10 multiplied by a power of 10. For example, 5 x 10³ is in standard form, what is this as an ordinary number? The answer is 5000. 0.5 x 10³ is not in standard form however, because the first number is not between 1 and 10.
