Year 9 Volume worksheets for Year 9 Maths (Key Stage 3). Students aged 13–14 may already know how to calculate the volume of prisms, including cuboids, using standard volume formulas. There are a number of formulas for the volume of 3D shapes that are usually provided to students in an exam. It's still a good idea however, to memorise the formulas. Volume of a cone, V = ⅓​πr²h. Volume of a sphere, V = ⁴⁄₃πr³. Volume of a pyramid, V = ⅓​Ah (where A is the area of the base of the shape). In year 11 students learn how to solve questions involving frustums.

    Split the shape into simpler 3D shapes, find the volume of each part, then add the volumes together. If part of the shape is missing, find the full volume first and subtract the missing part.

    Count the cubes along the length, width and height, then multiply them together. The volume of a cuboid is length × width × height.
  3. What is the formula for the volume of a prism?

    The volume of a prism is area of cross-section × length. First find the area of the front face, then multiply by how far the prism extends.
